A therapy dog named Smiley has been brightening the days of patients and nursing home residents in his small town in Canada, "Good Morning America" reported.
The dog was rescued from a puppy mill around age 1 or 2 by owner Joanne George. During his interview on GMA, George said that because the Golden Retriever was born without eyes, he began his life terrified to go outside the barn he lived in.
However, Smiley bonded with a deaf Great Dane named Tyler and came out of his shell.
Then, after some interaction with crowds, George realized Smiley would be the perfect therapy dog.
He now brings the dog to hospitals and schools in Canada to interact with patients and students. George has been caring for Smiley for the past 10 years.
"Does he bump into things? Of course he does. But he does it very carefully," George said, noting the dog’s high steps when he walks. "He’s feeling with his feet."
