A 10-year-old girl bullied for donating her hair presented a check to Wigs for Kids during a school assembly Tuesday morning.

Jetta Fosbergsaid she was bullied by classmates at Pathway School of Discovery after she donated 14 inches of her hair last month to Wigs for Kids. The non-profit, which makes wigs for kids with cancer, hosted an assembly at the school Tuesday to let students know what they do, and the assembly also gave Jetta a chance to share her story about why she donated her hair.

She raised $2,700 for Kids with Wigs through a social media campaign and presented the organization a check during the presentation this morning.

Margo Soko, Wigs for Kids Director of Fundraising, said it’s exciting to see young kids become passionate about giving back and helping another child in need.

At the end of the assembly, representatives with Wigs for Kids challeneged students to grow their hair to donate hair or raise money for any non-profit organization. A cut-a-thon is planned for the end of the school year.

“I’m really happy that instead of it being negative that it got turned positive and that it’s helping kids,” Jetta said.
