Officials say they stopped a murder plot that was created by three members of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Office of Statewide Prosecution and the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Thomas Jordan Driver, 25, David Elliot Moran, 47, and Charles Thomas Newcomb, 42.

Driver, Moran and Newcomb are all charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The attorney general's office said the three men plotted the murder in retaliation for a fight between an African-American inmate and Driver.

Bondi said the three cased the inmate's home in an attempt to murder him by injecting him with insulin and putting a fishing pole in his hand, making it looked like he drowned. They also had a gun on hand in case it didn't work. However, a very broad police presence in the area prevented Driver, Moran and Newcomb from carrying out the plot that day. Bondi said the police were aware of the attempted plot.

Statewide prosecutor Nick Cox, working in conjunction with the FBI, staged a homicide scene where they took photos of the targeted inmate, making it appear that he had been violently murdered.

The photos were then shown to Driver, Moran and Newcomb, who were very happy about the apparent killing.

Driver and Moran currently work for the Florida Department of Corrections. Newcomb is a former employee.

The Florida Department of Corrections released the following statement in response to the arrest:

"We are moving swiftly to terminate the employees arrested today and working closely with Office of the Attorney General to assist in their prosecution.  Our Department has zero tolerance for racism or prejudice of any kind. The actions of these individuals are unacceptable and do not, in any way, represent the thousands of good, hardworking and honorable correctional officers employed at the Department of Corrections."

Bondi said all three men are facing 40 years in state prison.

"We will not tolerate, nor will we ever remain silent, over the violence of hatred of embedded prejudice in this country," Bondi said.
