A 2-year-old dog found with horrific injuries in Orlando gets a new beginning thanks to Passion 4 Pits Rescue.
The rescue team is raising money to give Khaleesi, a pit bull mix, reconstructive surgery for severe injuries that have left her deformed. Khaleesi was found by Orange County Animal Services on Aug. 6 and was reported "as being dumped in a stranger's yard," ABC News reports. She only weighed 15 pounds and is believed to have been abused.
She was found with multiple injuries including immobile hind legs, missing lips and a missing nose.
“We suspect that it was another person who did this and it happened over the course of her life. Because of the damage to her legs, ribs and nasal cavity and their stages of healing,” said Stephanie Paquin, founder of Passion 4 Pits Rescue, to ABC News. “So someone was systematically abusing, or in my opinion, torturing this dog.”
Khaleesi was taken to a foster home two days after she was rescued, and gained 10 pounds within nine days. Dr. Kerri Slomcenski, owner of Hays Towne Veterinary Hospital in Hudson, Fla., will be conducting the dog’s surgery and plans to give her a nasal opening and fix her knee, rib and spinal injuries.
"The other thing is she obviously has some real deep facial abnormalities," Slomcenski said to ABC News. "We'll have to take some teeth that are abscessed because they are exposed and be able to put the lips back together again."
Khaleesi’s surgery will take place in a few weeks, Slomcenski said to ABC News, and donations can be called in to Hays Towne Veterinary Hospital at 727-378-9008.
Animal rescue officers are investigating Khaleesi’s case.
