The Oklahoma City Zoo is welcoming the arrival of a brand new baby gorilla. the zoo issued a news release about the newborn:
"The baby gorilla was born in the early hours of Saturday, August 16, 2014, inside a Great EscApe day room to mother Ndjole (pronounced In-jōlee) and father Togo (pronounced Toe-go)."
The baby, not yet named, was a little over 4 lbs at birth and appears to be healthy and strong.

According to the release, the baby’s mother has not demonstrated any signs of maternal care and so the Zoo’s veterinarian team will join zoo keepers to care for the newborn.
"Ndjole was given several opportunities to bond with her baby within the first 24 hours and didn't show any interest in her, putting the newborn's life at risk," said OKC Zoo Veterinarian Dr. Jennifer D'Agostino in a Zoo release.
The baby is the second born to Ndjole, an 18-year-old Western lowland gorilla, who arrived at the Oklahoma Zoo from San Diego in 2010.
