Crews rescued a man from a home after a tree fell on it Friday afternoon.

The tree fell through the middle of the mobile home in Gastonia, trapping the homeowner.

Neighbor Nora Dunn said the man who lives in the house is married and his wife was just arriving home from work as it happened.

"He was sitting in the recliner when the tree fell and fell right on top of him," Dunn said.

More than 40 emergency workers used heavy equipment to cut the tree away after the homeowner called 911.

After crews rescued him from the crushed home, he was airlifted to the hospital and had life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The man was conscious and able to talk to emergency workers during the rescue.

He had a broken leg and was in good condition at the hospital, his stepdaughter later told Channel 9.

The cause of the tree falling is not known.
