Italian designers Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel have created an eco-friendly way to dispose of dead bodies in the form of burial pods.
Fox 11 reported that the burial pods, called Capsula Mundi, are biodegradable and transform the deceased into a tree.
The creators say a tree can be chosen before death similar to the way a coffin is picked.
The egg-shaped pods come in two sizes, with ashes able to be housed in smaller pods.
Bodies are placed in fetal position inside the pod.
According to the Capsula Mundi website, the body is buried before rigor mortis or after.
Trees are planted on top of the pod and the pod as a whole is planted in the ground like a seed.
Family of the deceased can care for the tree.
Currently, the project is in a start up phase.
