A Labrador retriever never left the side of a 14-year-old boy who slipped and fell into a ravine and was not found for 44 hours.
Juan Heriberto Trevino tumbled into the ravine while attending a summer camp in Mexico's Sierra Oriental mountain range
He was injured and disoriented but not alone. Max, a Labrador retriever Trevino met earlier at camp was by his side.
Trevino could not find his way back to the camp and ended up spending two nights in the freezing mountain air.
"I grabbed (Max) and put him on my legs to not be so cold and hugged the dog," Trevino told Noticieros Televisa.
Max sniffed out some water when they were extremely thirsty the second day.
In that part of the mountain it is very easy to get lost. In addition, it's very cold at night, as it is very high," Martin Castillo, a police official told Mex Noticias.
Two men on horseback found the boy and he was airlifted to safety.
While the Trevino family wanted to adopt Max, he actually lives with a family in the area.
