While Darren Baysore’s dad was far away from their Tennessee home, serving his country, Darren used the moon as a way to talk to him. His father would tell his young son that he loved him “to the moon and back.”
Sadly, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Thomas Allen Baysore Jr. was killed in action in Afghanistan one year ago today.
While the past year has been difficult for the 6-year-old boy and his mother, Today reports that his unique request to honor his father has received responses from around the world.
Darren is asking everyone to leave their porch lights on tonight to shine a light to the moon so that his father can see that he still loves him.
A Facebook page has been set up where people can submit their porch light photos. People from all over the world are sending photos and messages of support. Soldiers in the Middle East are using flashlights or headlamps to participate.
Darren’s mom, Jamie Baysore, says the reception has been amazing so far and she hopes the porch light photos will lift the spirits of the still-grieving family.
