An ongoing terror investigation surrounded a plot to behead a police officer, FOX25 has learned.

Officials believe that the plot might have been inspired by ISIS. The terror organization is known for its brutal tactics, but also for its propaganda machine. Last fall, the FBI warned that the greatest terrorist threat against the United States comes from people who have become self-radicalized online.

Law officials have been on alert that terror groups might be targeting military personnel and police officers. FOX25 spoke with former Boston Police Chief Dan Linskey, who said ISIS was instructing followers to attack local police officers if they were unable to join the group directly.

More details are expected as David Wright appears in federal court in Boston this afternoon.
