Would it make you feel better to know how likely your plane is to crash before taking that flight? A new app does just that.
For $0.99, you can download the "Am I Going Down?" iOS app, that uses data collected from the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives, the United States National Transportation Safety Board and the International Civil Aviation Organization for its predictions. The app's creator, Nic Johns, tells CNN they've analyzed more than 10 million routes. According to Buzzfeed, the calculations take into account prior accidents that resulted in one or more passenger fatalities, since that's the "most relevant" metric for most users, says Johns. Flights older than 10 years are not included.
The app was released after the crash of AirAsia Flight 8501, although not on purpose. It has been in development for the past year.
