An Alabama sheriff has purchased $1.60 decals emblazoned with a Bible verse for every squad car in his command.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza said the decals represent what the department stands for, he told The Dothan Eagle.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, Matthew 5:9" appears in gold lettering around a sheriff's star and Alabama state seal with a black background.
Valenza posted the decal on the department's Facebook page.
Reaction to the stickers was mixed, as you can imagine, with commenters both praising Valenza and telling him he was in violation of the Constitution.
"Thank you for the Biblical reference. I pray ACLU doesn't make you remove it," said one commenter.
"It absolutely is a church state issue. The Establishment Clause prevents any government entity from endorsing a religion in any way," said another.
