Scott Walker is the 15th candidate to throw his hat in the ring for the Republican nomination for President.
But who is Gov. Scott Walker?
- Walker, who is the governor of Wisconsin, was born on November 2, 1967 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
- His father was a Baptist minister.
- Attended Marquette University, but did not graduate.
- Worked for IBM while still in school.
- He left college to work for American Red Cross in financial development. If elected he would be the first president without a college degree since Harry Truman.
- 1985 - attended Boys Nation in Washington, D.C.. Boys Nation is a civic program run by the American Legion.
- Married to Tonette in 1993. She is 12 years older than Scott. She was a wido when they met at a barbecue restaurant. The couple has two sons in college.
- 1993 - elected to Wisconsin State Assembly and was re-elected four times.
- 2002 - elected as Milwaukee County Executive for eight years. Walker cut county's debt 30 percent, reduced county's workforce by more than 25 percent, submitted nine consecutive budgets with no property tax increase.
- 2011 - inaugurated as Wisconsin governor. Walker inherited a projected $3.6 billion deficit and more than $800 million in unpaid bills.
- 2015 - began second term as governor.
