The lockdown at the White House this afternoon has been lifted, according to media reports.

A Secret Service spokesman said the lockdown was initiated after a vehicle followed a motorcade through an outer perimeter checkpoint at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 4:40 p.m.

The vehicle was stopped immediately and the driver was taken into custody, authorities said.

The White House was locked down as a precaution.

The person was not authorized to be in the motorcade, but does have a valid pass to access the U.S. Treasury Department next door to the White House, reports said.

The lockdown was lifted after about an hour.
