Iranian state TV aired video that showed the moment 10 US sailors were captured by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps after accidentally entering Iranian waters.
The tense scene shows the sailors, 9 men and 1 woman, with their hands behind their heads.
After being detained overnight, Iranian officials released all 10 sailors.
Wednesday morning, Secretary of State John Kerry spoke of the incident at the National Defense University, saying that the actions Iran took was “appropriate” and that the sailors were provided with blankets and food during their detainment. Kerry thanked Iranian officials for their cooperation and quick response.
There is brewing controversy because US officials, including Kerry, claim no apology was offered to Iran, but Iran State TV aired a video that appears to show a sailor apologizing. US military officials have not confirmed the veracity of the video.
