Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, experimented with pot as a teenager? Come on, it’s not that hard to imagine. Just think back to his marathon filibuster against the Affordable Care Act on Sept. 24-25, 2013, when he resorted to reading “Green Eggs and Ham.”

Seriously, though, a spokesman for Cruz told the Daily Mail Online this week that the senator smoked marijuana in his youth.

“Teenagers are often known for their lack of judgment, and Sen. Cruz was no exception,” a Cruz spokesperson told the publication. “When he was a teenager, he foolishly experimented with marijuana. It was a mistake, and he's never tried it since.”

The Daily Mail Online  said it asked representatives of 10 possible GOP presidential candidates whether their bosses had ever used pot, and seven of them responded. But Cruz was the only one whose answer was a "new admission."

Cruz's youthful indulgences, which he calls "foolish mistakes," were overshadowed after his teen years as he went on to become a champion debater at Princeton and an honors graduate from Harvard Law School.
