The city of Atlanta may spend up to $72,286 to restore a stream bank and protect a city-owned water line in the Peachtree Heights East neighborhood of Buckhead.
A resolution out of the City Council Utilities Committee authorizes the mayor’s office to reach an intergovernmental agreement with Peachtree Heights Park Inc. and the Peachtree Heights East Neighborhood Association. The area in question is within 7.2 acres owned by Peachtree Heights Park and maintained by the neighborhood association. It is green space generally accessible to the public, with paths and a duck pond.
The water line lies between the western boundary of a stream and the east side of Parkside Drive NE, and is in “imminent risk of failure” because of erosion, the resolution states.
Peachtree Heights East is a historic area, with some homes more than 100 years old. It was developed by Eretus "Petie" Rivers, who died in 1932. His widow donated land encompassing the duck pond and park to a trust to be held in perpetuity, according to the neighborhood association's website. The park was restored in 2001.
