The Woodstock City Council has given permission to close Main Street and Rope Mill Road through the downtown area for a road race and parades in July and December.

The roads will be closed from Woodstock Elementary School, 230 Rope Mill, to the Sam’s Club at Main and Ga. 92 for the Woodstock Freedom Run at 7:15 a.m. and the July 4th Parade at 10 a.m., July 4; and for the Christmas Jubilee Parade of Lights at 5:30 p.m., Dec. 7, according to a staff report to the council.

The roads will be closed from 7 to 8:30 a.m. for the Freedom Run and at 9:45 a.m. for the parade on July 4; and at 5:15 p.m. for the parade on Dec. 7. The roads will reopen once all pedestrian and parade traffic has cleared, and street cleaning and equipment removal has taken place, staff said.

The council also approved closing East Main Street in front of the park for the two festivals.
