During a walking tour earlier this week, members of Avondale Estates’ commission and Downtown Development Authority identified a primary site for a future parking deck: the old parking area behind the now-abandoned Peach State Credit Union on U.S. 278 and backing up to Franklin Street.

“The first thing we have to educate the community that parking is necessary to the future of development,” said DDA Chairman Robert James. “It definitely benefits every current business, but it allows us to develop further.”

The identified site sits within roughly 16 acres slated as part of a joint development between the city and Euramex Management. James said the city’s uninterested in “flat parking,” and that “three years is a reasonable time frame” for getting the deck built, though he added, “we needed it last week.”
