Vigil held for 17-year-old killed outside his home

A family is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old who was gunned down in Lithonia this week. More than 100 people gathered Saturday night to show their support for the family.

Rakwon Reid was a sophomore at Stephenson High School and his mom's only child.

Police are still looking for Reid's killer whose motive is unknown.

"He always laughed, and everything was a joke. So, when I see the balloons, I'm like, pop 'em Rakwon," Reid's mother, Gabriel Bowden, said.

Bowden is making it through this tough time with humor and the support of her family. She says Saturday night's vigil is part of the healing process.

"I don't know everybody out here, but to see everybody means that Rakwon was loved by many, many people," Bowden said.

Reid's uncle, Justice Muhammed, led the group in prayer and had a message for young people in disagreement.

"I hope they make another decision when they feel that the only thing that resolves their disagreements is to kill one another. That's not the answer," Muhammed said.

Bowden's focus is on her son and the impact he made with his outgoing personality, his music and his clothing line.
