Vandals have made the start of summer break a hot one for some Atlanta kids.

That's because two city swimming pools haven't opened yet due to vandalism in bathrooms, Sharon Davis with Atlanta's parks and recreation department, told the AJC. About $85,000 worth of repairs are needed at the South Bend and Adams park pools, meaning it will be at least mid-June before the first splash.

"All metals including copper, brass and steel were taken from the facilities," Davis said.

The repairs should take about two to three weeks, once the bidding process for contractors is complete.

South Bend Park is located on Lakewood Avenue, about five miles away from Adams Park, on Longhorn Lane, in southwest Atlanta.

Most of the city's other pools opened this week, just in time for the heat wave. Pools at Grant Park, Piedmont Park, Chastain Park and Garden Hills opened for the Memorial Day weekend.

The city has several other pools that are open as scheduled, Davis said. Those include Candler Park, Powell, Pittman Park, Powell, Thomasville, Anderson Park, John A. White, and Dunbar Park.
