Police are searching for a man accused of trying to grab a teenager at a Gwinnett County park.
The boy told police it happened late in the afternoon June 5 at Mountain Park Park. Police are just starting to release information in hopes of breaking the case.
The man is accused of making lewd comments and gestures toward the teen and the teen’s friend.
Police say one of the boys’ quick thinking is what gave them their biggest clue. One teen snapped a picture with his smartphone as the man approached his friend.
The two boys told police that they had seen the man in the park before, but when Channel 2’s Tony Thomas showed his photo to other visitors, no one recognized him.
“I’ve never seen him. We come out here quite a bit,” said park visitor Demetrius Kostopouls.
Thomas talked with Kostopouls about the man police are looking for and the teenager who recorded video with his smartphone.
“(That was) very quick thinking,” Kostopouls said about the teen’s actions.
While both boys were able to get away unharmed, the encounter was enough for fathers, like Kostopouls, to admit that they will keep a much closer eye on their kids.
Investigators say that besides the photo and a vague description, they have little to go on to identify the man in the photo.
