Update: Decatur (DeKalb)
In December, we told you about Renee Edwards’ concern over potholes in DeKalb county.
“I am writing because complaining to or reporting to DeKalb county seems to do no good. Right now, at the composing of this email there are eight open potholes on Clairmont Circle in Decatur.
Edwards said she has lived on this street for 26 years, and has seen the street become more and more of a cut through street.
“The whole street is ‘alligatored,’ the county’s own word to describe a street that is cracked and or broken. There are places where due to tree roots the street is buckling. But far and away the issue is potholes. One pothole in front of my neighbors house had to be filled six times.”
We heard back from DeKalb officials.
“DeKalb county filled several potholes on Dec. 27, 2018. The county has prioritized repaving Clairmont Circle and this street is included on the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) list. SPLOST funding will be used to mill, patch and resurface Clairmont Circle and the project will begin by November 2019,” officials said.

Lynn Spent hopes a dangerous situation can soon be addressed.
“This two-foot deep hole in the sidewalk has been there since last June. It is located on the north side of North Decatur Road at the busy Clairmont Avenue intersection. There is a lot of pedestrian traffic here. I recall contacting DeKalb county in June. It has obviously not been repaired. I fear someone is going to get seriously hurt,” she wrote.
We sent her issue to the county and will keep you updated.
