The more than seven inches of rain that fell on Peachtree City earlier this month caused sinkholes and other damage that the city is working to repair.

A sinkhole near the civic sign at the intersection of Ga. Hwys. 74 and 54 has closed the northbound 74 turn lane going east on 54. The Georgia Department of Transportation is in charge of that repair but no schedule has been set yet.

Another sinkhole has closed Flat Creek Road to through traffic between Fairway Lane and Flat Creek Court.

Detours are in place and a temporary repair will reopen the road soon, but a permanent storm pipe replacement must be done in the coming months and will close the road for another 45-60 days.

City crews are also cleaning up fallen trees on roads and golf cart paths; residents can report tree blockages to cmack@peachtree-city.org noting the path number or nearest street. The city reported that its new spillway on Lake Peachtree “worked as designed” and was able to handle the high water volume.
