A new downtown restaurant in Austell will receive a $230,000 incentive from the city.
The money will come from the interest earned on the city’s $5 million Norfolk Southern railroad settlement when the Austell intermodal facility was constructed at U.S. 278 and 6000 Dr. Luke Glenn Garrett, Jr. Memorial Highway.
South Cobb Diner will open at 5850 Love St., but the opening date has not been set, City Clerk Sandy Farmer said in an emailed statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The rest of the interest funding for this year, $92,600, will be used by the Austell City Council to benefit families in need, churches and public schools in the city; Christmas bonuses for city employees and cemetery improvements.
