A newly aligned Big Creek Parkway to take pressure off the Holcomb Bridge Road/Ga. 400 interchange for its eventual reconstruction, and creating a historic gateway from the south – and eliminating the reversible lane on Ga. 9 (Atlanta Street) – were among the projects given highest priority Wednesday night by the Roswell City Council.

The Council approved a project list for the five-year, 75-cent Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to be presented to voters in November.

The TSPLOST is for Fulton County outside Atlanta. If it passes, it would raise a projected $569 million total over five years; the maximum allowed anticipated collection is $655 million. Roswell’s share of the $569 million would be $93 million, based on its 16.3 percent share of Fulton’s population.

As mandated, Roswell divided the list into three tiers: Tier I, with highest priority, are major projects to reduce traffic congestion across the area, to be funded by 85 percent of anticipated tax collections ($79 million); Tier II projects, like streets and sidewalks, by 15 percent ($14 million), if sales tax collections meet expectations; and Tier III projects, like general intersection improvements, if tax collections exceed expectations ($14 million).

Roswell’s list now goes to Fulton County to be combined with TSPLOST project lists adopted by other jurisdictions. Fulton also has been working on an intergovernmental agreement for the participating communities.
