Customers of City of Roswell Utilities will be hearing from the city more often. The Roswell City Council Monday night approved a plan that would bill water and solid waste customers monthly instead of bimonthly.
Finance Director Keith Lee told the council the change would cost the city about $14,500 more a year in printing and other costs. He added city officials believe that moving to a monthly cycle will improve collection rates due to residents paying a smaller amount each cycle. The change cuts the “window” from initial billing to cutoff from 54 to 45 days.
Lee said finance department officials anticipate the change going into effect with January bills.
The council also okayed an amendment to the city’s ordinance dealing with outdoor dining. It bans liquor-license establishments from storing or dispensing beer, wine or spirits outdoors, specifying that any drinks ordered have to come from a bar area inside.
The change resulted from police department concern over outside-stored alcohol being sold to passers-by.
