Gwinnett Commissioners approved construction contracts for pedestrian and intersection improvements for two new schools that will open in August. The Graves Road intersection at McDonough Drive in Norcross will get a traffic signal and entrance to the new Graves Elementary School. The $2.1 million contract, which also includes sidewalks connecting the school to Graves Park, went to low bidder C.W. Matthews Contracting Co.
An existing signal will be modified and turn lanes and sidewalks installed at the entrance to the new Baggett Elementary School at Old Norcross Road and Oakland Road in Lawrenceville. CMES Inc. of Lilburn was the lowest of five bidders at $1 million for the contract that also includes new turn lanes on Cruse Road. Both projects are funded with 2009 SPLOST dollars.
