The southwest corner of Cherokee County will be getting a lot of attention from public officials in the coming weeks. The county has called three public meetings seeking residents’ comments as it works on a Southwest Cherokee Area Plan.

A public kickoff meeting is set for Wednesday, March 20; a community visioning meeting, for Thursday, April 11; and a planning workshop/charrette, for Wednesday, April 24. All meetings are scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Oak Grove Community Center & Fire Station, 100 Ridge Mill Court, Acworth.

The meetings follow the Cherokee Board of Commissioners’ hiring of Bleakly Advisory Group in February to complete a market study in response to residents’ concerns about a lack of retailing and services in southwest Cherokee.

In January, commissioners approved a 90-day moratorium on rezoning and special use permits in southwest Cherokee, to give staff time to draft guidelines for the fast-developing area.
