Vinings residents are invited to discuss their vision and goals for the downtown Vinings community at a design guidelines kickoff meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cochise Riverview Club, 3795 Cochise Drive SE, Atlanta.

Home to a rich historic background, diverse housing options and a unique environment, Vinings also is impacted by tremendous growth and sometimes intense traffic flow in condensed areas, said Brittney Lindsay, manager of Marketing and Communications/Public Involvement for The Collaborative Firm.

Design guidelines assist county staff, other professionals such as architects, engineers, planners and developers and community members in making more informed decisions for private developments or public facility investments.

“These design guidelines will help capitalize on Vinings’ assets, inspiration and potential while creating public spaces that promote heath, happiness and well-being,” Lindsay said.

A stakeholder meeting will be held in May, with the final public input meeting in June.

This project will take six to eight months to complete, she added.

Cobb County already has design guidelines established on Atlanta Road, Canton Road, Dallas Highway and Macland Road.

County staff recently completed design guidelines along Mableton Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton and has plans to develop guidelines along Austell Road.
