The Milton City Council has given staff the go-ahead to submit a pre-application to the state for a $200,000 Recreation Trails Program Grant to construct trails on the former Milton Country Club property.

The grant will require a 20 percent local match of the total project cost of $250,000, or $50,000, according to a report to the council by Parks and Recreation Director Jim Cregge. The matching funds would come from the currently budgeted Park and Trails Expansion capital budget.

“Currently, the former Milton Country Club has golf cart trails that are not ADA accessible and are in disarray,” Cregge said. “At this time, if the grant is approved, this would construct about 1,210 linear feet of trail beginning at the former clubhouse.”

The master plan for the former private club, now public green space owned by the city, calls for replacing and re-aligning the trails, Cregge said.

The grant is from the Federal Highway Administration and is administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, according to a resolution passed by the council.
