Following a special called meeting on Jan. 4, the Lilburn City Council voted in favor of First Avenue right-of-way abandonment to allow for more on street parking around the Trigg Square mixed use development. Initially the plan provided on-street parking only on Lula Street and First Avenue. No parking was proposed on Railroad Ave due to right-of-way limitations.

After working closely with the architect and developer, a new plan was proposed that provides on-street parking around the entire site. The proposed right-of-way abandonment allows for 29 spaces of 90-degree parking on the Railroad Avenue side of the site closest to the park. Thirty-seven spaces of 90-degree parking will be provided on Lula Street and 12 parallel parking spaces will be on First Avenue where a more residential character/atmosphere is desired. Sidewalks will be provided on all road frontages.

The Main Street parking configuration is currently shown with 53 spaces of 90-degree parking, but its ultimate configuration is to be determined. The total number of on-street parking spaces proposed is roughly equivalent to the number of spaces currently in the overflow lot. In the long run, there will also be on-site parking behind the future commercial development as well.

The right-of-way width of First Ave is 100 feet, meaning the city will be left with about 70 feet. For comparison a typical subdivision street has a 50-foot right-of-way.
