The Lilburn Police Department is accepting applications for the 2020 Citizen’s Police Academy. The 13-week program is designed to educate and inform citizens about issues that face law enforcement efforts in the city.

The academy will meet 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings beginning Feb. 20. Registrants must attend at least 10 of the 13 classes. Each week a separate area of the department is covered with topics including crime prevention and community-based policing, drugs, K9, traffic enforcement, accident investigations, criminal investigations, the Use of Force Model and use of force training, firearms safety and the law. Participants will also tour the Gwinnett County Jail.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, live or work with Lilburn city limits, have no prior felony arrests or crimes of moral turpitude, no misdemeanor arrests within one year of the application and possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
