The Lawrenceville Gas Department uses 800-1000 class meters to provide intermediate commercial gas loads. The department has over 400 of these size meters in the city’s system, most of them manufactured by Sensus. When Sensus stopped producing this class of diaphragm meter, the city began using Itron meters to replace them. Of the 80 or so Itron meters in the city’s system, over 20 of them have had mechanical issues registering gas. As a result, the city has been using the slightly more expensive Elster American meter with no further performance issues.
The Lawrenceville City Council voted Monday to approve the gas department’s request to purchase 800-1000 diaphragm meters from the sole source Ed Young Sales representing Elster American Meter Co. and making Elster American Meter a standardization for this class of meters.
