Kennesaw will increase utility bills for commercial and residential customers to maintain the city’s stormwater system. The City Council Monday approved adding a $5 residential fee and commercial fees based on square-feet of impervious surface to monthly utility bills.

The council determined that continuing development in the city and aging infrastructure created a need for a stormwater program. The utility plan will also meet a federal mandate that requires cities with more than 10,000 residents to have a stormwater runoff program.
