Four candidates have qualified to run for the unexpired term of Cumming City Council Post 1 member Rupert Sexton, who retired as of May 1.

According to the Cumming city clerk, the following candidates paid the $180 filing fee and completed all other requirements: Former Forsyth County commissioner Linda Ledbetter, financial services company owner Roger Crow, banker Chuck Welch and real estate agent Julie Tressler.

The four will run in a special election June 16 to fill the balance of Sexton’s term, which will run through the end of 2017. The winner will be sworn in July 21. Doug Sorrells is poised to serve as interim council member until then. Sorrels is a former Forsyth County clerk of courts.
