Former Stockbridge city clerk Rhonda Blackmon has filed a federal racial discrimination lawsuit against the city.

The Dec. 15 action comes in the wake of an EEOC complaint filed last spring after she was abruptly relieved of her duties in the first city council meeting of 2014. Blackmon, who is white, was replaced by a vote of a majority black council, two of whom were brand-new members following the 2013 elections.

The suit alleges that they were sworn in improperly according to the city charter and their actions that day were void, and that one council member was heard to say that the council would protect black city employees.
