Senior citizens who qualify for the 2019 homestead exemption in Peachtree City can file now. City residents must register annually for the exemption, which is a flat rate of $5,000 per home or about $34 in savings this year based on the current property tax millage rate.

Homeowners must be 65 years old as of Jan. 1 and have already applied for the standard homestead exemption through the Fayette County Tax Commissioners’ office. Household income must be less than $30,000 as calculated by the Federal Adjusted Gross Income(s) of the applicant and spouse. Those who qualify must bring proof of age and income (a copy of their 2019 tax returns) to City Hall by Feb. 28 to file for the exemption. Proof of income will be accepted until April 10 for those who file the form by Feb. 28.
