Fayette County has revised its student code of conduct manuals “to bring some common sense” to the rules, according to Superintendent Joseph Barrow Jr.
The changes were made after the Board of Education got input from stakeholders and lawyers; the board adopted the revisions at its June 16 meeting. Among the updates for the coming school year are banning the use of e-cigarettes and cannabidiol products, prohibiting non-religious head coverings, and adding “restorative, reflective and instructional alternative discipline methods” to possible disciplinary actions.
Other provisions relate to technology devices, emergency preparedness, consequences for sexual improprieties, and requests for information about teacher qualifications.
The new elementary and secondary codes of conduct can be viewed under the Students tab at www.fcboe.org.
