Fayette County’s high schools will soon be able to keep more of the funds they collect from student parking fees.

The Board of Education voted 4-1 Monday to give the five schools up to the first $7,500 they receive from car and golf cart parking stickers, with the remainder going to the central office to help defer operational costs. Each school has a paid parking lot attendant, which board members agreed is necessary for safety and security. However, the schools bring in varying amounts of revenue, which this year ranged from $9,715 at Sandy Creek to $47,960 at McIntosh. T

he schools pay for minor lot-related expenses, while the county pays for major repairs.
