East Point denies permit for Cleveland Avenue church

During the regular East Point City Council meeting on Dec. 21, the council discussed approval of three change of agent requests for alcohol license holders in the city.

Each request was granted, having no one opposed the requests.

The council also considered approval of two requests for special use permits for houses of worship, one at 2619 Dodson Road and another at 1405 East Cleveland Ave.

The council granted the request for the Dodson Road church but denied the request for the Cleveland Avenue church, based on a recommendation by the city’s planning commission to deny the permit because the church location would be problematic for its neighbors.

The council also voted to approve a contract for tree removal costing $95,260, and the purchase of 14 vehicles for city use.
