A rancher in Douglas County is offering a $2,500 reward to find the person who shot and killed his calf Friday night.

Authorities told Channel 2 Action News that it's the third time in three years that livestock has been shot along Mason Creek Road in Douglas County.

The ranch is right on the line where suburb meets country. There's a subdivision of big homes near the ranch.

Rancher Nolan Kell said he believes someone fired a shot from the road, killing his calf with one shot in the eye, he told Channel 2.

He said the cattle had bedded down along the tree line Friday night. He said he found the dead calf Saturday morning less than a hundred yards from Mason Creek Road.

Across the road from Kell's farm, rancher Howard Lewis said someone killed two of his cattle in the same way about two years ago.

"A lot of people who live in the city may just kind of shrug this off, not that big a deal?" said Kell. "It is a big deal."

The Douglas County sheriff's office is also pitching in $1,000 to try to catch the calf killer.

"It's a very difficult case to solve until we get a lead on something like this," spokesman Lt. John Jewel told Channel 2.
