Three dogs from Henry County’s animal shelter graduated in August from the National Detector Dog Training Center in Newnan.

Granite, Henry and Lizzie now work with the United States Department of Agriculture as a part of the Beagle Brigade. The dogs work mostly in airports, searching travelers’ luggage for prohibited fruits, plants and meat that could harbor harmful plant and animal pests and diseases.

They also work with inspectors and x-ray technology to prevent the entry of prohibited agricultural items into the U.S., as well as serve as goodwill ambassadors by educating the public about the USDA.
