Weaver Capital Partners presents final plans regarding the Oakhurst dog park before Decatur’s Planning Commission 7 p.m. Tuesday at the City Commission Meeting Room, 509 North McDonough Street. Weaver previously indicated it wants to purchase .6 of an acre, or about one third of the dog park — currently owned by the Samuel L. Jones Boys & Girls Club — and build two large homes. But Lee Goldsmith, spokesman for the dog park’s steering committee, said Monday that he’s learned the developer will abandon its building plans if it can buy the property and sell it to the city for enough profit to cover expenses.

Goldsmith says he expects a large crowed to jam City Hall Tuesday.

Decatur has had a long-time interest in purchasing the entire five acres owned by the Jones Club, once part of Oakhurst Park until the city sold it off in 1972.

“They’ve never been interested in selling before,” Assistant City Manager Lyn Menne said two weeks ago, “but now we are having conversations with them and they’re not telling us ‘no.’“
