Acworth plans new police headquarters

Acworth is taking bids through Feb. 26 for architectural and engineering plans for a new police headquarters that will cost about $4.75 million. The 39-member department has run out of room and will build adjacent to the current facility on Acworth Industrial Drive. Funding will come from the 2011 SPLOST. The jail will remain at the current building.

Fulton

Darnell remains Fulton commission’s vice chair

Emma Darnell will remain the Fulton County Commission’s vice chairwoman for another year. The board unanimously reelected her to the position earlier this month. At the first meeting of each year, the commission chooses a vice chair to serve a one-year term.

Henry accepting bids for transportation projects

The Henry County Board of Commissioners is accepting bids from vendors who are pre-qualified by The Department of Transportation for traffic loop and sensor installation for various projects throughout the county.

Contractors shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, and services to fulfill the terms of this bid.

Bids will be received by the commissioners at the purchasing department, 140 Henry Parkway, Room 209, in McDonough, GA 30253 until 3 p.m. Feb. 4.

Late bids will not be considered or returned.

Suwanee offers citizens police academy

The Suwanee Police Department offers an eight-week Citizens Police Academy program 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 19 at the Police Training Center, 2966 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

Applications are available at www.suwanee.com, and are due 5 p.m. Feb. 4.

Chamblee holding Daddy-Daughter dance

Chamblee’s parks and recreation department is holding its annual Daddy-Daughter dance 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Chamblee Civic Center on Broad Street.

The dance is for girls in the eighth grade or younger and their fathers, grandfathers, uncles or other male role models. City residents and nonresidents are welcome.

Cost is $30 per couple and $5 for each additional daughter.

Softball league registration set

Registration for Forsyth County’s Spring Adult Softball League will run through Feb. 8.

Teams can register at the Central Park Recreation Center, 2300 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
