College Park City Council voted unanimously at its December meeting to approve an agreement with both General Electric Management Inc. and Electric Cities of Georgia for an advanced metering infrastructure system to monitor electricity use of College Park residents.

The contract would allow cities to obtain, within a 3-year sign up period, lower electricity rates if other signed-up cities received lower costs due to efficiencies. The agreement also offers College Park a performance guarantee and a first-adopter benefit, along with a non-escalating exit fee should the city opt out of the contract with 30 day prior notice.
