The first lighted bridge in Cobb County is scheduled to open Wednesday as a part of the $17.7 million Skip Spann Connector.
This project is comprised of four lanes of new connecting roadway, a 10-foot multi-use path on both sides of the bridge, a realignment of TownPark Lane and a roundabout at the intersection of Busbee Drive and TownPark Lane.
Traffic is anticipated to be reduced by 19 percent at the I-75 and Chastain Road interchange.
Project partners were Cobb and Georgia Departments of Transportation, Kennesaw State University and the Town Center Community Improvement District.
Monetary contributions are $10.6 million from GDOT, $5 million from Cobb DOT, $1.4 million from Town Center CID and $700,000 from KSU.
The project was named after Skip Spann who helped develop the Town Center CID and KSU’s athletic program and who died in 2012 at the age of 73.
Under Spann’s guidance, the Town Center CID leveraged around $27 million into $106 million in local, state and federal funding for projects benefiting the entire Town Center area. Information: 678-350-5061, info@tcacid.com, TownCenterCID.com/projects/SkipSpann-Connector.
