The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved officiating contracts with three regional sports organizations and a $79,974 contract for uniforms for Cherokee Youth Basketball.

The three-year officiating contracts have a total estimated compensation of $198,000 divided among the Cherokee County Officials Association, North East Cobb Officials Association and North Georgia Amateur Umpire Association, based on the number of games they work.

The associations are compensated $66 per game for two floor officials and a clock operator, according to a staff report to commissioners.

Separately, the county board awarded Krown Sports USA the contract to supply youth basketball uniforms. Krown was one of 11 bidders and received the highest evaluation scores in categories of quality, delivery and experience, staff said. Its uniforms will cost $18 apiece, about $7 less than under the previous contract.

Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency youth basketball involves nearly 4,500 young people from 1st grade through high school.

During a season, the league puts in an estimated 3,000 regular season and playoff games, making it one of the largest such programs in the state, county officials said.
