Chamblee holds public hearings on increased property taxes

The city of Chamblee will hold public hearings to address a proposal to increase property taxes 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Chamblee Civic Center, 3540 Broad Street.

The city tentatively adopted a new millage rate of 6.40 mills, meaning an increase in property taxes by 8.60 percent over the previous rate.

Two additional public hearings on this tax increase will be held 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 9 at the Chamblee Civic Center.

After the final public hearing, the millage rate will be formally adopted. This new rate of 6.40 mills for the newly annexed properties will result in an increase of .507 mills. Without this increase, the rate will be 5.893 mills. The tax increase for a home valued at $125,000 is $11.40 and the tax increase for non-homestead property valued at $450,000 is $102.06.
