An Alpharetta immigration attorney pleaded guilty Friday to profiting from helping illegal immigrants obtain green cards after filling out documents with false information.
Parmesh Dixit, 40, pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens as part of a money-making scheme that involved fake documents, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. Dixit was indicted in May 2010 on 28 counts of visa fraud, 42 counts of alien harboring for the purpose of private financial gain and other charges.
He is accused of helping 37 illegal immigrants by putting false information on their applications for green cards, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. The false information included the person’s prior employment; biographical information; and jobs available in the United States.
Dixit earned approximately $1 million in doing this, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.
“As a specialized immigration attorney, this defendant used his knowledge of immigration laws and regulations to defraud the government and secure employment visas for aliens who did not qualify for them,” U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said. “Dixit got rich off of his willingness to break the law and over-charge his clients for his filing of false applications for visas with the government.”
Dixit faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
